New Song.Not Finished yet., Songwriting

I was recently going through my unfinished songs, looking to see if there was anything worth revisiting or if there were any ideas that were worth pinching for another song when I can across this song that I wrote about 8 years ago.

I had a verse and chorus but looking at it I decided it needed at least another verse before it could be considered complete (as opposed to finished). It was part of an extraordinary burst of new writing which saw me write three new songs as well as work on this one.

So I’ve added another verse, and I may add another but I have enough of a song to give it an outing and get some feedback. Let me know your thoughts.

Verse 1

Hear me, turn your ear to me O God
Answer me I pray
Saviour, I seek refuge in your love
From the darkness all around

Chorus

You are the rock on which I build my life
I know your words are true
though the world around grows darker still
I will stand secure in you

Verse 2

Keep me as the apple of your eye
May I find myself in you
Hide me in the shadow of your wings
May I stand secure in you

12SongChallenge, Demo, New Song. Not Finished yet.

Not completed a new song for a few months now. In 2021 I have spent most of my time recording, mixing and mastering songs for release and then, taking a well earned(?) rest.

The 2021/2022 12 Song Challenge started this month with the theme of the Holy Spirit and I now have a completed song, albeit needs some polishing.

The begins with Acts Chapter 1 when Jesus tells them for wait for the gift promised by the Father

Wait (wait in Jerusalem)

Verse: 1

Wait, wait in Jerusalem
for the gift my Father promised to you.
Wait wait for the counsellor
Wait for the promised Spirit of Truth

Chorus: 1

For John baptised with water,
But I baptise with fire
When the Holy Spirit comes
He’ll embolden and inspire
You will be my witnesses
So wait…

Verse 2

Time, time passed too slowly
And slowly people started to leave.
Soon, soon just a remnant
Stayed faithful to the call they’d received

Chorus 2

On the day the Spirit came
The building shook with power
With the sound of rushing wind
And anointing tongues of fire
They became his witnesses
To the world…

Middle 8

In the last days I will pour out my Spirit
Young and old, will prophesy.
On my servants, every woman every man
On all peoples of this world.
He will come

Verse

Now, now hear him calling
To leave our place of comfort and ease
Move, move into action
And rise to fight injustice and greed

Chorus

He did not leave us orphans
He gave to us his power
So let us go with boldness
and take this world of ours
Let us be his witnesses
In our time

Middle 8

In the last days he has poured out His Spirit
Young and old, can prophesy.
On His servants, every woman child and man
On all peoples of our world.
For all time

New Song. Not Finished yet., Work in progress

Sometimes, life gets so messed up and you begin to wonder where God is. You know the theology, but really, God. Where are you?!

The words are still a WIP as is the arrangement

Tell Me Why?

Tell Me Why

Verse 1:

Tell me why, do you love me like this?
Tell me why , am I forgiven my sin
After all that I’ve done do you welcome me back
Tell me why?

Verse 2:

Tell me why, do you even persist
When your love is betrayed with a kiss
Was the prize that you gained really worth all the pain
Tell me this

Chorus 1:

This is more that I can ask or even imagine
Stretching further than my mind could even reach
Thoughts too lofty for my mortal mind to follow
Tell me why lord, tell me why

Tell me why, tell me why, tell me why, Tell me why

Verse 3:
This is why, I love you like this
you my child, are worth everything
Yes, the prize that I gained was worth all of the pain
This is why.

Verse 4:

This is why, I will chase after you
Even with all the things that you do
Through you try hard to hide
You belong by my side
This is why.

Chorus 2:

And I know it’s more than you can ask or imagine
Far beyond the reach of mortal minds like yours
But my ways are not your ways, my thoughts beyond yours
This is why child, this is why.

This is why, this is why, this is why x2

Verse 4:

This is why, I come back to you
After all the things that I do
When you died in my place
I’m restored me to grace
This is why.

Chorus 3:

Though it’s more than we can ask or imagine
Far beyond the reach of mortal minds like these
But Your ways are not our ways, Your thoughts beyond ours
This is why, Lord, this is why.
